PSA Free
What Does This Test Check?
This test measures free PSA, the portion of prostate-specific antigen not bound to proteins in the blood. It is used alongside a total PSA result to work out the free-to-total ratio, which helps judge whether a raised PSA is more likely benign or worth closer investigation.
Lola Health offers the PSA Free test at £20, with results in one to four working days from a home sample. It is the only option here, so there is no provider comparison to weigh up.
A low free-to-total ratio may indicate a higher chance of prostate cancer, while a higher ratio suggests benign enlargement is more likely, but neither settles the question. The ratio is only meaningful next to a total PSA result, so share both numbers with your GP.
