What Does This Test Check?

These tests measure iron and its stored form, ferritin, to check your iron status and how well your body maintains red blood cells. Together they help indicate whether you are storing too little or too much iron.

Mid range tests sit at £39 from Medichecks, Forth and BetterYou, £39.99 for the BetterYou kit, £49 at Goodbody Clinic, £50.22 at Thriva, £65 at Bluecrest Wellness, with the fuller anaemia panels at £79 from Goodbody, £119 from Forth and Vitall.

A low ferritin level may indicate iron deficiency, while a high level may point to excess iron stores, but neither is a diagnosis on its own. Inflammation and other factors can affect ferritin, so discuss your result with your GP before supplementing.
