What Does This Test Check?

These tests measure magnesium in your blood serum, a mineral essential for muscles, nerves, energy and bone health. The level indicates whether your body has enough magnesium available.

Two providers offer this check. Forth is cheaper at £45 while Medichecks charges £55. Both measure serum magnesium, so the practical difference is price and provider preference.

A low serum value may indicate deficiency, but blood magnesium reflects only a small fraction of your total stores, so a normal level does not rule out a shortfall. Because results vary with kidney function and diet, go through the reading with your GP before supplementing.
