What Does This Test Check?

The PSA test measures prostate-specific antigen, a protein produced by the prostate that can rise with age, infection or prostate disease. It is a widely used screening marker for prostate health rather than a diagnosis of cancer on its own.

Medichecks is the cheapest at 45 pounds, with Forth a close second at 49 pounds and Thriva at 58.50 pounds. Bluecrest Wellness charges 85 pounds and Check4Cancer 93 pounds at the top end, so the home and clinic tests from the cheaper providers are the budget routes on this page.

A raised PSA level may indicate a prostate condition and warrants a repeat test and a GP discussion, but it does not confirm cancer and many men with an elevated result turn out to have benign causes. Some prostate cancers also produce normal PSA, so take the number as a prompt for proper medical follow-up, not a verdict.
