What Does This Test Check?

This test measures lipase, an enzyme produced mainly by the pancreas that helps digest fat. A raised level may indicate that the pancreas is inflamed or irritated.

A high lipase level may indicate pancreatitis or another pancreas problem, but it does not confirm a diagnosis on its own and mild rises have many causes. If you have severe abdominal pain, seek urgent medical care rather than relying on this test alone, and discuss the result with your GP.
