What Does This Test Check?
These tests measure the hormones involved in the menopause transition, chiefly follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and oestrogen. The levels help indicate whether you may be entering or passing through the menopause.

A raised FSH may indicate the menopause transition, but levels alone do not confirm it, since symptoms and age matter too and hormones fluctuate around this time. A single reading does not settle the picture, so discuss it with your GP, especially before starting HRT.
