What Does This Test Check?

The Vitamin B12 test measures the level of the active form of vitamin B12 in your blood. B12 is crucial for making red blood cells and keeping the nervous system healthy, and a low level can cause fatigue, tingling and memory problems.

A low B12 result may indicate a deficiency worth correcting through diet, a supplement or, if absorption is poor, injections, but a single reading does not tell you the cause. Normal levels also do not rule out nerve-related symptoms from other sources. Review the result with a GP who can decide on the right treatment.
